A commissioned painting begins with something personal: a memory, a turning point, a person or a place that matters.
I translate that starting point into an original work in my own visual language. Not a literal reproduction, but a painting with its own character, made to remain meaningful.

Most commissions do not begin with a finished image. I listen, ask questions and look for the element that gives the work its direction.
Once that is clear, there must still be room for instinct, doubt and discovery in the studio.
That balance matters. The work is made for you, but it must also remain unmistakably mine.

A commission may be created for a particular home, given as a personal gift, or begin because the painting you are looking for does not yet exist.
You bring the reason. I make the painting.

A commissioned painting can give a restaurant, hotel, workplace or interior project a focal point made specifically for that setting.
It can mark an entrance, anchor a room or give the space a recognisable identity.

CONVERSATION
We meet to discuss the commission and whether working together feels right. No detailed brief is needed.

DIRECTION
We agree on the core idea, dimensions, materials, price, planning and delivery before the painting begins.

CREATION
With the essentials agreed, the work enters the studio. From that point, instinct and the painting itself take the lead.

COMPLETION
When the work is finished, we arrange its collection, delivery or installation and give it the place it was made for.

FROM TOASTIE TO LOBSTER
For De Huuskamer in Ansen, the starting point was owner Albert’s straightforward philosophy: “From toastie to lobster, just good food.”
That idea became a bold painting made for the restaurant and the character of the place.
